Reece & Liz's "Wedding Social"..
On Saturday, February 28, 2004, a group of girls from Masquerade went to a wedding social for our friends in the GLBT community.
The event was held at the Bulman Centre at the University of Winnipeg. I was so happy that I was off work early enough to have time to get ready and get there on time.On the way, I stopped to visit my daughter at work before the social.
By the time I arrived at the University of Winnipeg it was about 8:30 pm, and I was fortunate enough to find parking right beside the campus. It was such an exciting feeling walking up the sidewalk of the university, feeling the cool night air on my legs.
Once I found my way into the building, my concern about find where in the building vanished as the path was well laid out with signs pointing the way to the Soiree!
Here I thought I was late. WOW! Was I ever early!! I met up with Rhiannon who had chosen a table near the stage. Smart move! Our friend Michele joined us a short while later. Vanessa's mom was at the next table, so I had a nice chat with her, and she introduced me to her sister, Vanessa's aunt. Whom I instantly recognized as the ex-wife of a good friend of mine. Someone who would know me as "HIM". Now I know why Vanessa's mom's voice sounded so familiar to me. She didn't seem to figure out who I was, and I wasn't worried about it anyway. Shandi was kind enough to get a picture of me with her!
The rest of the girls to show up were Natalie, Chantal, Vanessa, Cristie, Ardra, and Krystal with her wife Silver arrived. As it usually goes, the 9:00 pm drag show got started late. Yet it was "on-time", "Drag-time"! The performers were terrific as usual.
Following the drag show we spent the evening dancing the night away, visiting with friends and taking pictures. There are pics from the event in my photo album, and there are lots more on the Masquerade web site.
After the music stopped at 1:00 am and we said our goodbyes social I left the social and walked through the grounds of the University of Winnipeg. Feeling the cool air on my legs as I walked in my high heeled boots and mini skirt, I though how wonderful it is to have places to go and to be able to spend time as "Sabrina" with such terrific friends. Much different than only a few short years ago, when evenings like this were only a dream.
Dream for all you want...Dreams do come true!
Thanks for reading my story,
