"Tips & Hints"....... Doing my "Make-Up"
Applying make-up is truly an art form that I'm sure you will agree even many genitic girls have a problem with:-) (If you know one, send them this page<giggle>). Seriously though, when you are out and about meeting people, they will be looking at your face, so it should look good. There are many who go to extremes when it comes to make-up, however, I prefer the simple approach, and I think it works for me. I'm not an expert and this page is just to fill you in on what "I" do. Everyone will develope techniques that work well for themselves.
I use mostly COVER GIRL cosmetics!! The reason is simple, the grocery store carries them and it is so easy to just toss them in the cart with the rest of the groceries:-) The Cover Girl web site is also a terrific place for you to "covertly" learn about make-up, which colors are best for you, and applying them too!
I love to look at faces, and spend a lot of time looking at how someone, be they in person or in a magazine, does her makeup. I find it a fun way to learn, and when I see a look I like, I try it on me!
OK, on to the magic...
1. Start with a clean face
Just like any artist who starts with a clean canvas, I make sure to start with a clean face, and make sure to trim any unwanted hairs from my brow and nose.
2. Getting a close shave
Electrolosis would be great if I wasn't worried about explaining why I never have to shave, so I must settle for shorter periods of fem time:-( I seem to over do it, but I get a much closer shave if I shave once, then wait a while, then shave again, moving the blade in a different direction the next time. I find that very hot water realy helps get a close shave.
3. Moisturizer
I have been using L'Oreal Revitalift on my face to help out a little, and use it under my makeup.
4. Concealer
After letting my face relax after being tortured by the razor, I use Cover Girl concealer (#710) over the lower part of my face, and yes under my eyes to hide the bags from being up all night chatting at TG Chat or on MSN<LOL>! Many girls swear by "Dermablend", however, I have not tried it, so I can't help with a testimonial.
After applying quite a bit of the concealer, I use a sponge pad (sold in the makeup department) and smooth the concealer over the lower part of my face and on my neck.
5. Foundation
Now that my "canvas" is ready, I get to start painting<LOL>. Again, using Cover Girl medium foundation, I apply it on my face using a little sponge pad, but if I am in a hurry (which I ussualy am) I'll use my fingers. I make sure to apply it evenly over my entire face and under the jaw line, blending it down my neck.
The trick to selecting the color for your foundation, is to try and match it to the colors of your neck, so the skin tones don't look too far apart.
UPDATE!
On Saturday, March 26, 2005, I had my first opportunity to meet with the Cosmetician at Shoppers Drug Mart and get some professional advise on a foundation and the proper color. I was sold on "CoverFX" which is a wonderful product suitable for "us" girls! CoverFX is basicaly the concealer and foundation in one product. 6. Eye shadow
Now comes the fun part, adding some color! In the past, I used to use many wild colors, yet now I find the simpler earth tones work the best for me:-) I start with the lighter colors on my eye lid, upwards and out to the sides, then add darker shades in the crease to the outer corner of the eye. The best way to learn,"Study pictures!". Then, using the other colors on the palet, I work them above the color and make sure they all blend together, so as not to have the "paint by number" look!
I used to use the little applicators that come with the eye shadows, but since our group was given a makeup demonstration, I use the proper brush.
7. Eye liner
Some times I use darker shades of eye shadow on my lower eye lid, or, for a more dramatic look, I'll use a brown or black eye liner pencil instead.
8. Mascara
I just love the way adding mascara changes the look of my eyes. First, I use an eye lash curler on each eye, then touch the mascara applicator to the underside of the lashes, move it side to side slightly, to set the lashes into the brush, then move the applicator up and away, turning the brush at the same time. A few times on each eye, and the look is terrific!
Using the tip of the applicator, I'll touch the lashes on my lower lid too:-)
9. Blush
Using a blush brush, and smiling to accentuate the cheek bones, I brush on my blush over the cheek bones to add some shape to my face.
10. Powder
Once all this is done, my foundation should be set, and ready to be set with poweder. I use a Cover Girl pressed powder over my face and neck. This sets the foundation and really softens the features *S*
11. Lipstick (The Best Part)
This has to be the most fun part about being a girl! Putting on my lipstick*S* Nothing to special to tell here, just that us "part-time girls" need to be aware of which lipsticks wash off easily, and which ones are like almost permanent!!
Everyone has their own way of doing their makeup to create the look they are happy with. So experiment with colors and styles, and have fun being a girl*S*
